Most underperforming websites aren't broken, they're just quietly losing visitors at a few predictable points. Here's a five-minute audit to check your own site against.

1. Load time on mobile

Open your site on your phone, on mobile data rather than wifi. If it takes more than a few seconds to become usable, you're losing people before they see anything.

2. The first screen

Without scrolling, can a stranger tell what you do, who it's for, and what to do next? If it takes scrolling to find that out, it's costing you visitors who won't bother.

3. How many taps to contact you

From the homepage, count the taps needed to reach a contact form, phone number, or booking link. More than two or three is friction that adds up.

4. Is it current

Old pricing, outdated services, or a copyright year from several years back quietly signals neglect, even if the rest of the business is thriving.

5. Does it work on the browsers people actually use

Check your site on at least one other device and browser than your usual one. Broken layouts on unfamiliar screens are more common than most business owners realise.

What to do with what you find

If your site fails one or two of these, targeted fixes are usually enough. If it fails most of them, a rebuild is likely the better use of time and money than another round of patches.
